There will not be a ride out of West Falmouth on Saturday, July 23rd, 2016. In place of this ride is the York Beaches ride…see the club website, newsletter and e-mails from Ron for more information. Consider joining the club for this ride…it is a very nice ride to Portsmouth. I’ve done it a few times and have always enjoyed it very much!
The West Falmouth ride will resume Saturday, July 30th, 2016.
Steve will host a ride out of West Falmouth on the 4th of July 2016. Starting at 9 AM at the Hannaford parking lot across from exit 53 of the ME turnpike. Plan on around 40 miles with a stop at Bayley’s Ice Cream on Pine Pt Road (they open at 11 AM so we will take our time going out there).
We’re trying something new on Wednesday evenings. Once a month, starting Wednesday, June 1, 2016, we’ll be offering a beginner ride alongside our regular Wednesday group ride (the one that leaves from the Yarmouth Hannaford parking lot).
What is a beginner ride? Let’s say you love riding your bike, and you’d like to meet other people to share this passion with. On the other hand, you’re not sure you want to put on lycra shorts, jam your feet into locking pedals, and ride in the type of cycling peloton that gives drivers fits. In keeping with our mission, Casco Bay Bicycle Club would like to introduce you to group cycling of another sort. You don’t have to be a speed demon, you don’t need a bicycle with drop handlebars, you don’t even need lycra shorts (although we do recommend them).
Steve Buxton will be leading the beginner ride on the first Wednesday of each month, starting June 1st. Steve estimates that distances with be in the 8 to 10 mile range, but could be higher or lower, depending on the composition of the group. Steve will cover topics like safety, signals, road etiquette and more. He may even show you his “cat ears” helmet attachments!
This ride does not replace our regular Wednesday ride, it merely provides another option on nights when it is held. Participants are encouraged to join the rest of gang post-ride for stories, food and beverage at Romeo’s!
The club is looking for ride leaders for our Saturday rides out of West Falmouth. The rides start at 9 AM and are usually 25 to 35 miles long. Ride cue sheets are available on the web site. At this time we need leaders for all Saturdays in May (except the 14th) and the first three Saturdays in June. Please contact Steve Capriola at email@example.com if you can lead any of these rides. Thanks for your help.
Welcome to Casco Bay Bicycle Club. We host road rides in and around Portland, Maine, and in the White Mountains of Maine and New Hampshire. We are a social club, and not a bunch of hammerheads*. So if you like to socialize, eat, and ride at a conversational pace (give or take), we might be a good fit for you!
The club elections and annual meeting have been held, and we have a new board for the 2015-2016 term! We thank Marlin Conrad, who is leaving the board, and welcome new board member Andrea Mullen. The other board members are all returning for another term to continue their good work on behalf of your club – be sure to thank them.
Keep your eyes peeled for a postcard announcing our annual holiday party, which is to be held on Wednesday, December 16!
