Ride of Silence, Yarmouth – May 18, 2011, 7 PM

Wednesday, May 18, 2011, 7 PM

A free and silent bike ride, no faster than 10-12 MPH, honoring cyclists lost or injured due to motorists, promoting ‘Share The Road’.

This is a slow ride following a relatively flat course suitable for all experience levels of bicyclists. The ride will start at the Hannaford parking lot in Yarmouth and travel ~10 miles in Yarmouth. You must have a helmet.  Lights and black arm-band recommended.  Please be ready to ride by 6:50 PM. Note: no regular 6 PM CBBC ride on this date!

Community Bicycle Center Benefit Dance

The Community Bicycle Center is the youth organization in Biddeford run by Andy Greif. A Number of club members help with this organization.

They are having a benefit dance May 14, 2011. Let’s go down and meet some of the folks who will help us run the 2012 and 2013 Maine Bike Rally.

Yarmouth Rides Begin May 4

Hi everybody -

Wednesday night bike rides out of Yarmouth will begin May 4, 2011! Hopefully it will be a bit warmer by that time! The rides begin at 6 p.m. in the Hannaford parking lot in Yarmouth with a stop at Romeo’s Pizza after the ride. We drop no one and the average speed is under 15 mph. The rides will get continually longer as the summer progresses but we will start at about 10 – 12 miles.

Bike Clinic

Where:  Healthy Body, Fit Mind – 18 Ocean Street, South Portland

This Clinic is designed to give you an overall view of what is  necessary to enjoy safe outdoor biking, get you in great shape and avoid injuries. Here is what you’ll learn:

  • Types of bikes
  • How to update your current bike
  • Equipment, Clothing
  • Biomechanics
  • Correct body position
  • Training
  • Tools to have on your bike
  • How to Change a flat tire

Participants can bring their bikes but it is not necessary.

Ride of Silence

Please join us at 7 p.m. on March 17th in Classroom 4 of the Dana Center at Maine Medical Center to hear Tony Barrett and Bob Bruce speak about their club’s Ride of Silence experiences in past years. This year’s event is scheduled for May 18, 2011 and CBBC will most likely participate.

The Ride of Silence is a free and silent bike ride, no faster than 10-12 mph, honoring cyclists lost or injured due to motorists. It is also a promotion of the “Share the Road” philosophy.

Program: “I am an Old Wheelman:” John Calvin Stevens’ Art of Bicycling: 1880-1900

During the last decades of the nineteenth century, prominent Portland, Maine based architect John Calvin Stevens helped create and sustain two-wheeled enthusiasm and culture in Portland.

In this presentation, USM history major Sam Shupe will verbalize nineteenth century bicycle culture in Maine as well as illuminate John Calvin Stevens’ art of bicycling as another addition to the list of cultural and artistic gifts he gave to the city of Portland and the state of Maine.

Saturday Yarmouth Rides Time Change

Hi All,

Effective immediately (October 10, 2010) the Saturday Yarmouth rides will begin at 10:00 AM to give the air a chance to warm up a bit before we start to ride. We’ll continue rides into the fall until it snows or there is ice on the roads. Hope to see you this Saturday.
